KJ can speak very well, said a friend
I replied: “We are not looking for a TV host. But a prime minister.”
Hmmm, What Is Shahidan Kassim up to these days?
After he lost the Perlis MB job. Is he still with UMNO? Oh, yeah ar. He is still a state legislator, kan. Poor guy, crying all also the wife. So touching this general election. I think no more drama liao till….erm…next month?
Can’t decide
About a new listing category…Should it be ‘religion’ or ‘christianity, islam, buddhism, etc’…? Now, I’m leaning towards ‘religion’…
***UPDATE***Have decided on religion.
Being prime minister…
May be a case of rezeki. Look at Pak Lah. And then Ku Li……

My Toilet Reading These Days: Ong Ka Ting - The Man and His Ideas
Just finished 1984, again
Well, Malaysia is nowhere near Big Brother? But having read the book, sometimes I wonder if the UMNO culture is as twisted as the Party in the novel. The Party is honest when it said it sought power for power itself. And the way to demonstrate power is to make others suffer and humiliate them because only then will you know that you have controlled the person’s will. Instead of love and justice, the Party is founded on hatred and its only reward is the perverted satisfaction of power.
Re-reading the classic also reminded me of the cyclical nature of history, in which society is generally divided into three major classes: High, Middle and Low. The Highs will try to remain where they are, the Middles will try to be Highs, and the Lows are generally exploited by these two classes in their pursuit of power.
But is the rest of the world like Malaysia? Nah, I know. I’ve lived in UK. It’s a first world country. Not perfect but first world. There if you lodge a complaint with the police about ethnic cleansing, they have to investigate and generally the politicians will be in deep s***. Not here. Here, power and money call the shots. If you are rich and powerful, you can do anything? Probably even get away with murder?
I hope to leave soon.
Malaysia, the one-party socialist state
Check out the Hitler-like “billboards” of a politician, right here in our capital city, Kuala Lumpur
From Rocky’s Bru:
We used to associate Lenin, Mao, and Saddam with superbillboard-sized portraits and statues of themselves. Right here in Kuala Lumpur, these “greats” would stand no chance beside the latest picture of our
own Datuk BandarMayor of Malacca.
Premonition: The Star’s ORACLE’s Sunday message
I have a feeling that the oracle will be commending the Special Complaints Commission Bill. What does your crystal ball say?
Many things happening…
But I need to grab some makan first.
Is all this worth it?
Just random thoughts.
Wondering about whether us bloggers will make any difference in this sea of information against the misinformation of the Barisan Nasional.
Slight dip in The Star’s circulation
WOW. Check out the super-spin in the The Star which said “Newspaper circulation in Malaysia grows 12%“.
But checking its daily circulation numbers from last year on its website, circulation has dropped from 310, 288 to 309,181. OK, to be fair, circulation can be described as STAGNANT. Similarly, the Sunday Star’s circulation also dipped from 323,644 to 322,741.
Well, I’ve no time to go into the past five year trends, etc but perhaps newspaper circulation has reached a plateau and after this, observing worldwide trends like the New York Times or even closer to home, Thailand’s The Nation, the Internet may be the new frontier.
I have to say the Star’s acting Group Editor-in-Chief Wong Chun Wai appears fairly modern as he launched a new talk show, Cafe Latte Chat, which was also available on video online.
We’ll just have to see how fast our mainstream media adjusts to the new world of instant updates, cheap video technology and accessibility.
By the way, most people buy newspapers for NEWS….so if there is no news….why buy newspapers? If we want to read about lifestyle and entertainment, why not just buy magazines?
What’s with MSM editors’ fascination with “crossroads”?
Every time there is some crisis, someone will write “Malaysians are at the crossroads”, “Anwar at the crossroads” and the latest is The Star’s Veera’s “Indians at the crossroads” which followed Wong Chun Wai’s “One for all, all for one” (I thought it should just be aptly titled “ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL” from Lord of the Rings instead. The Barisan Nasional is so twisted by power that they are more like Gollum than any of The Three Musketeers).
So Veera’s belated commentary goes through the same stuff…a bit too late? Who knows?
YO! How long more at the crossroads? The HINDRAF rally suggests that those who demonstrated are perched at the edge of a precarious precipice. One nudge, KABOOM!
RUMOUR MILL: Pak Lah + Jean = incest?
THIS IS NEW TO ME: “IT’S GROSS TO MARRY YOUR WIFE’S SISTER-IN-LAW LAH!”. Last night, a group of middle-aged, middle-income Chinese (men and women) were talking that it’s kinda GROSS that Pak Lah committed “incest”. I said, “It’s not incest lah. She (Jean Danker) was his wife’s brother’s wife. Where got incest?” The group looked at me and finally an aunty said: “How can like that?”
