Tengku Razaleigh, PM at last?

Posted in democracy, elections, macam2ada, politics, racism, scam, umno by jedyoong on March 20th, 2008

Tengku Razaleigh, or fondly known as Ku Li by Malaysians, still yearns to taste the power of being prime minister. Born in 1937, the former finance minister is now 71. But he has declared that he is still keen to fight for bangsa, agama dan negara (race, religion and country).

In one word, Ku Li is kolot-lah. Did you read his letter to prime minister Abdullah Badawi? He bemoaned that Penang has fallen to the “Chinese-based DAP”, Perak to “DAP despite that the mentri besar is from PAS” and Selangor which will be “dominated by non-Malay DAP and non-Malays from PKR despite that the mentri besar is a Malay”.

WOW! It doesn’t get any more racist than this I hope. OH NO! TANAH MELAYU telah jatuh dalam tangan kaum pendatang (Tanah Melayu has fallen into the hands of the immigrants)!

I’m surprised he didn’t add the favourite, “The Malays will always have political power.”

But in his two-page letter calling for an emergency meeting to discuss the party’s devastating performance, he warned that “Umno will not be able to represent the voice of Malays again”.

Well, in this case, I would prefer Abdullah as at least he said in the UMNO General Assembly in 2006 that UMNO was “for all”, suggesting that as the biggest party in Barisan Nasional, it had a duty to look after the interests of other “races”. This has yet to translate into policy except for the scrapping of bumiputera privileges in the Iskandar Development Region in Johor and opening up small loans to non-bumiputera small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

REFRESHER ON TENGKU RAZALEIGH and the RM2.5BIL BUMIPUTRA MALAYSIA FINANCE SCANDAL

Not directly related to him but one of Ku Li’s cronies, Lorrain Osman, who was a former BMF chairman. Notoriously known as the Carrian scandal in the early 1980s, the case involved murders, extraditions and glamorous personalities from London to Hong Kong. In the end, the alleged mastermind George Tan of the Carrian group was not convicted. Meanwhile, Lorrain is living in the very posh St. John’s Wood in London and was investigated in 2001 for some shady deals involving the Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Bertie Ahern.

SO TAINTED-LAH. Can we have some FRESH FACES please? At least Anwar is not associated with financial controversies like Ku Li, Mahathir and Daim are.

Anwar: UMNO stoking ‘flames of racial hatred’

Posted in anwar ibrahim, pkr, politics, racism, umno by jedyoong on March 16th, 2008

Press Statement by Anwar Ibrahim (SAT - March 15, 200 8) :

I am therefore deeply concerned with the attempt being made by certain elements to stoke the flames of racial hatred in the aftermath of the March 8th Malaysian elections. We have reason to believe that this vicious campaign is being orchestrated by a small number of very wealthy Malays and UMNO leaders who are themselves guilty of squandering and abusing the NEP to enrich themselves and their cronies at the expense of the general public. These people are now using the UMNO and government controlled media to incite fears among the Malays and deflect attention away from their electoral defeat and from UMNO’s historic failures to address the needs of all Malaysians including the poor and marginalised Malays.

I ask my fellow Malaysians to reject the desperate attempts by some UMNO members to salvage the remnants of a broken party by pandering to people’s fears and sowing divisions and disunity among the people of our nation.

JY: Hmmmmm. Good statement. I thought he was overseas…..

Petrified in Perak

Posted in democracy, elections, life, malaysian, politics, racism by jedyoong on March 14th, 2008

No joke. Not alarmist. Well, it was confined to the North-South Highway. The Simpang Pulai Rest Junction, I think. It also had a Petronas gas station.

I was hungry, so I ordered nasi ayam (chicken rice). At first, of the four to five Malay staff there, all ignored me and it took a few times to take my order. And when my drink was late and I called the boy, he acted dumb till finally they brought my drink without a smile. Not to mention my chicken portion was almost half of that of the Malay men sitting next to me….My tomato and cucumber were also smaller. Am I being over-sensitive?

Anyway, I was quite annoyed with their attitude and service but sensed that they were trying to piss me off. I was there. Maybe another five Chinese. The stalls were manned by Malays. Some other travelers who stopped over were also Malay. And I don’t know.

But I was quite petrified and kept looking down on the ground. Never in my life have I been so scared around Malays. At that point and about 30 minutes after, I really wished BN had won Perak with UMNO holding the majority and the DAP in the Opposition as usual. Or at least PAS and PKR had more seats than DAP.

Comments may not be moderated till late tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Anyway, looks like my blog is invaded by cyber-troopers.

When I use Malay as a descriptive term, am I being “racist”? Or when I use Cina to describe a group of ethnic Chinese who are Chinese-educated, is that bigotry? No-lah, brothers and sisters, racist means saying Cina is greedy and not giving the person a chance. So already condemn the individual based on some label. Or not promoting someone cos he is a Malay ‘cos sure “tak boleh one”.

And of course when someone goes on about Confucius or Chinese schools, I am less interested. Just like when people go on about Islam. I am Christian. So my values are based on Christianity. At the same time, I am open. But would you blame me for tuning out when I am listening to arguments for Chinese schools or hudud laws for the 100th time? Let’s find other areas of common ground to build our friendships.

I believe that identity is in the hands of an individual. We can all be whoever we want to be. As we are all God’s children.

That of a Malay MB in Perak

Posted in democracy, economics, politics, racism by jedyoong on March 9th, 2008

***UPDATE 9.45PM***

Actually I don’t care if it’s a Malay or Chinese but I do feel that it’s irrelevant that the MB must be of a certain race. :) In any case, I see no harm as the DAP will be a majority in the State Legislative Council anyway. ;) We must be happy familly too ;) Let’s hope things will be resolved peacefully. :)

***UPDATE 9.19PM***

Someone emailed me to let me know that it’s by law that the MB must be Malay. Non-Malays can only be Chief Ministers in states without the Malay sultanate. To reply his question as to why a PAS wakil was chosen (unconfirmed), I understand it’s because the PKR wakils are newbies or too junior. Tks!

Also, looks like the rumours about 69 etc to suggest that DAP should choose a Malay are irrelevant ‘cos it’s required by law to be a Malay. More institutionalized discrimination?

ORIGINAL POST

Some minor problem in choosing a Mentri Besar for Perak. Apparently, a Chinese MB may be dangerous. Anyway, I think it’s just more of the fear tactics of Barisan Nasional. Already some pro-BN blogs are warning of a possible 69 should the Perak MB be a Chinese. I am disgusted by commentaries by “you-know-who” in a certain English-language tabloid and blogosphere’s biggest anti-Anwarista who mentioned the situation in that year when Selangor too fell to the Opposition and compared it to Perak.

Basically, I can’t believe we are having this discussion. It’s not as if it has to be a racial issue but in Malaysia, it has become that. If a Chinese becomes MB in Perak, that would make two in the country, including Penang. Is that too much to ask? Why don’t Malaysians learn to share-share and play fair?

I think we have come a long way since the early days of independence and severe inequality. The voters have voted. Let the best man win and take the next step towards a modern society.

We mustn’t let the fear control us. We must not be threatened by racial violence.

Let us pray for peace and security. And believe that God is watching us. In God, we trust.

ABIM demands stronger Islamic presence, rejects secularism

Posted in democracy, elections, islam, macam2ada, mind control, politics, racism, religion by jedyoong on February 21st, 2008
Sharia is nothing but a human concoction of medieval religious opinion. Look around the Islamic world where sharia rules and, in every single country, these ordinances reduce our human value to less than half that is accorded a male; homosexuals are imprisoned or killed, children have no free voice or autonomy, authoritarianism rules and infantilises populations. What’s more, different Muslim nations claim to have their own allegedly god-given sharia. In Saudi Arabia, women cannot drive (What in Allah’s name could the Koran have warned about cars?). In Bangladesh and Pakistan, they have no such bar to driving, although increasingly Saudi Wahabi Islam is taking over and we see Saudi sharia taking hold. It is growing in influence here, too. Ten years ago, the only fully shrouded Muslim women around were from the Arab fiefdoms, the many wives of sheikhs often drawn by cartoonists to convey the absurdity and inhumanity of such cloaks. Now all of Europe has these girls and women rendering themselves invisible in public spaces. It is their elected sharia, so they claim without credibility. There is no agreed body of sharia, it is all drafted by males and the most cruel is now claiming absolute authority.

M’sian Islamic groups demand stronger role for Islam ahead of polls
The Straits Times, Singapore
Feb 20, 2008

KUALA LUMPUR: SOME 100 Islamic groups in Malaysia called on Wednesday for wider powers for Shariah courts and stricter enforcement of religious and moral doctrines ahead of general elections next month.

In a list of election demands, the groups said the government should declare Malaysia an Islamic-majority nation and reject any attempt to make it a secular state.

The demands were made by the Defenders of Islam, a loose coalition of about 100 mostly conservative Islamic organisations representing students, professionals and others.

Yusri Mohamad, president of the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM), which leads the coalition, said recent racial and religious tensions stemmed from efforts by certain groups to challenge Islam’s role in the multiracial country.

Iran: Ayatollah Khomeini and the fall of Persia

When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, torture them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war. — Qur’an 9:5

The thuggish revolt in Iran, better known as the Islamic Revolution, was anything but a progressive movement. This was a conscious assault on the 2500 year old Persian Empire and the progressive Iranian people of the twentieth century. This untimely revolution outrageously installed the most oppressive theocratic Islamic system known to the history of mankind. With that, it renewed an era of Islamic terrorism and the revival of its never-ending passion for world domination.

The father of the Islamic coup d’etat in Iran is also considered one of the twentieth century’s founders of Islamic terrorism: the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khomeini was an extremely brutal man, instilled from his upbringing with Islamic superstitions and prejudices, but otherwise possessing little education. Claiming to be descended from Muhammad, Khomeini was steeped in anti-secularist, Islamist supremacist thought that is often bred in Islamic seminaries.

As his religious beliefs inevitably mixed with political and social doctrine, he became a part of Iran’s rapid descent from a nation re-emerging as a free and prosperous country to an Islamic theocracy. His role became increasingly one of justifying and urging Sharia and the suppression of human rights as a means to perpetuate Islamic rule. He insisted that all Iranian freedoms not specifically authorized in the Quran were a part of the American and Zionist “agenda”, and he urged civil unrest throughout the nation.

He was deservedly exiled to Iraq for 15 years. In the midst of the civil unrest, Khomeini returned to Tehran in February, 1979 and turned the rejuvenated Islamic passion into rabid anti-Americanism and anti-Western values.

Fortunately for him, Khomeini would soon find that he had friends in high places. The US had just elected Jimmy Carter as President, a man considered hostile to Israel and pro-American interests in the Middle East. It was Jimmy Carter who reassured the world that the Ayatollah Khomeini was a peaceful and “Holy Man”. With Carter’s support, the Ayatollah Khomeini was installed as the unelected dictator of Iran. For his monumental ineptitude, President Carter earned for America one of the greatest and shameful events known as the “Iranian Hostage Crisis”, which perhaps not only cost Carter his presidency but also helped the hostage taker, President Ahmadinejad, earn his.

One might think that former President Jimmy Carter has learned his lessons during his presidency and now he should be en route to promoting freedom, or given his manifest maladroitness, perhaps he should just quietly enjoy his retirement. Instead, he has continued to spout anti-American sentiments and nearly treasonous accusations against more sensible American policies, as he willingly allies himself with despots, dictators and many Islamic terrorists around the world in the name of “dialogue”.

Jimmy Carter has earned himself a reputation for actively participating in strategies that aim at the destruction of America and the State of Israel. In addition to assistance from Carter, the Khomeinist Revolution was aided by many left-leaning, anti-American, anti-Israeli power brokers in Europe as well. One example of such prejudice and arrogance is the Nobel Committee, which eagerly bestowed the Nobel Peace Prize upon the man who helped set the stage for Islamic terrorism in the Middle East, who recently accused Israel-the only remaining Democracy in that region of imposing Apartheid.

Perhaps we should not be shocked by their rewarding one of their own for prejudice and incompetence. After all, the committee must have known that Carter had made the terrorist Yasir Arafat a mega-millionaire by giving American tax dollars to such a ruthless, conniving thug in exchange for a temporary truce that would last just long enough for the dishonorable Carter to receive his “honors”.

But then again, what else might we expect from a group so committed to anti-Americanism that they would not only promote one of America’s worst Presidents, but also the former Palestinian terrorist, Yasir Arafat (who was responsible for thousands of terrorist attacks against the Israeli people), as well as Peace Prize Laureate, Ms. Shirin Ebadi, who has become the spokesperson for the most ruthless government in the world, the Islamic Republic of Iran?

With this help, Khomeini deposed the Shah and accomplished his great wish, the enslavement of a free Iran and the establishment of a base for exporting terrorism. However, this revolution was anything but popular. Certainly, the effects of authentic revolution will always involve greater masses of people, whether they actively participate or not.

In Iran’s case, only 8 to 10 percent of the population was involved in establishing the plenary Islamic State. Nevertheless, the Islamic Revolution brought about a massive shift of power from the State to the incompetant and dogmatic terrorist clergies. Progressive Iran had been derailed. Instead of a Persian society moving toward secular rule, democracy and individual rights, it lurched backwards into the hands of a clergy that would rule with the pre-enlightened tactics of terror and brutality that is Sharia.

Bluntly speaking; one cannot be an Islamic cleric without being a terrorist. Terror and Islam go hand in hand. They are inseparable entities, conjoined in scripture, sanctioned by Muhammad, and demonstrated throughout Islamic history.

“When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, torture them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.” Qur’an 9:5

The Islamic revolution of 1979 was one of the most regressive and oppressive revolutions in the history of mankind. It directly led to continuously violent bloodshed, cruelty, hatred, poverty, prostitution, drug addiction, intimidation, stoning to death, forcing Iranian women to wear compulsory hijab, execution of thousands of innocent people without any due process, creating a culture of nihilism and despair.

These are the fruits of Khomeini, Carter and smug elitists, like those at the Nobel committee, who hate Israel and America so much that they would encourage any form of depravity rather than witness the blossoming of a society that desires freedom, independence, and tolerance in alignment with the principles that also happen to make up the foundation of America. At the hands of the leftist-Islamic alliance, the Islamic Revolution in Iran was able to suffocate its entire population and now threatens the world.

While some Westerners polish their “peace” prizes, congratulate themselves, and pay honoraria to each other for making lofty but irrelevant speeches, the world is in chaos. Those in the West who are responsible for helping pave the way for this barbaric system of terror in Iran now find themselves and their children at war with radical Islam themselves. As the saying goes, “you reap what you sow” and the world is reaping the whirlwind.

Apparently the Ayatollah Khomeini forgot to mention to former President Carter that the Islamic Revolution was never intended to stop at Iran’s borders. The “holy Quran” is clear about this: the entire world must submit to the authority of Sharia and all must bow to their true masters under the domination of Allah.

Khomeini and his successor, the Ayatollah Khamenei, have raped Iran economically in a bloodthirsty quest to finance their obligation under Islam, which is to export the Islamic Revolution throughout the world, including, but not limited to, nations where Islam already has a foothold. In comparison, Vladimir Lenin also believed in exporting a working class revolution and insisted on uniting the working class against the imperialist West. He said: “The Russian Revolution is only one of the contingents of the international socialist army, on the action of which the success and triumph of our revolution depends.” The parallels between leftist idealism and Islamic idealism are real.

Sickeningly, the Iranians, historically among the most civilized and tolerant of mankind’s peoples, are now viewed as the base recruits of a primitive seventh century barbaric campaign of Islamofascism. Iran, under the stranglehold and machinations of the Mullahs, has been transformed, in less than three decades, into the lead perpetrator of all that is abhorrent to humanity.

I urge my Western friends not to blame all of Iran for the faults of the regime. Most of these people have suffered immensely under the banner of “Islamofascism”. They are oppressed people with no voice. Do not give up on them, as they are an underclass with no power, controlled by a rank of enforcers and war-makers called the “Mullahs”. The last thing they need is appeasing negotiators to give the Mullahs a new lease on life, or a shower of bombs from the skies.

Let me also assure my Western friends that not only every single Iranian alive today will support the total integrity of Iran, but they would rather die than to see an inch of their country taken away. Resentments of the Mullahs aside, first and foremost, all Iranians believe that Iran must remain intact. Iranians will never negotiate away their country for their freedom. It must be fully understood that separation is not on the table.

Shiite Iran is currently home to over 300,000 Mullahs. The most descriptive term for Mullah is parasite. A Mullah begins his career as a parasite, lives as a parasite and dies as a parasite, simply because he contributes absolutely nothing to the necessities of life, yet gobbles disproportionately more of whatever resources he can devour.

A Mullah is the principal agent of terror, believing his cause to be the cause of Allah. This misanthrope is the outcome of Islam. He is the result of adherence to the Islamic creed, precisely as codified in scripture. This raw, despicable regime represents the inevitable result of Islam, and its calling card of terrorism is now marching from the Iranian focal point to all parts of the globe.

Progress only thrives in a marketplace of free ideas, where beliefs and viewpoints clash, not people. It is through the unimpeded clash of ideas that the best decisions and actions are reached. Islam is anathema to this invaluable principle. By forcing itself on any and all people it could, Islam violated this vital principle and it aims to continue to do so to this day. It is not the non-Muslim world, the convenient scapegoat, but Islam itself that is the culprit for our chronic ills. Most of the people of Iran know this, and seek to put Islam in its proper place.

It must be noted that the overwhelming majority of Iranians of various ethnicities and religions remain faithful to their ancient creed- a creed that was given to the world by Zoroaster, the triad of Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Deeds. It is of vital interest of the free world to stay the course with the Iranians and enlist its power in support of freedom-loving Iranians to topple the ruling Islamofascists who are bent on wreaking death and destruction in the world.

For nearly twenty-eight years, in the name of Islam, the Iranian people have been paying a heavy price for these despotic parasites. In the name of Islam, individuals have been stripped of all the rights that they ought to enjoy. In the name of Islam, the economy has been destroyed and the historic culture is being extinguished. In the name of Islam, the Islamic regime is purging Iranian identity.

The time for a progressive revolution has arrived. The majority of Iranian people refuse to be fooled and intimidated any longer. They refuse to obey orders from the beasts of Allah currently ruling Iran. Iranians have recognized the fundamental weakness of their oppressors. With a little help here and little help there, they can be transformed overnight from seemingly subdued and helpless sheep into mighty lions.

Unlike what you may hear from the regime’s propagandists, dissatisfaction with the rule of the Mullahs is widespread. You will not read about it in many anti-American media outlets, but Iranian students, traditionally the vanguard of political and social reform in Iran, continue their valiant struggle in the face of torture, imprisonment and death. Labor unions, although tightly controlled, are in a constant state of rebellion against the inhumane treatments by the Islamic State. Ethnic and religious minorities suffering under the ruthless Islamic injustice and pogrom-like measures are ripe for mass eruption.

The past week’s gasoline riots in Tehran were the signs of unhappiness with this incompetent regime and people’s readiness for a full-fledged revolution. There are some similarities between the last revolution and the upcoming revolution. But this time around people’s participation will be much higher, and unlike the Shah, who left the country to avoid a bloodbath, the ruthless Mullahs will most likely crush thousands or even millions of people before they give up power.

It is extremely important to keep in mind that the key to victory in Iraq is also in the hands of the Iranian people. Thus it is for the good of all concerned that we start supporting the Iranian people and their success of toppling a terrorist regime. Let us hope that the world has learned its lessons.

It is time for the Iranians to strike, gather forces, organize, and especially demonstrate in the streets in increasing numbers, even in the face of massive, gruesome, bloody repression by the Islamic rulers who still have a powerful armed apparatus at their disposal. It is time to unleash the wrath of the Iranian people on the Islamic zealots. It is time to become even more defiant and end the barbaric theocratic regime by massively participate in a progressive revolution.

Another election all ‘kow tim’?

BY JOE FERNANDEZ

They are only worth a paint job for a Tamil school, a promise not to demolish temples, a promise to ensure that the cops will not beat up Tamil youths so often, a new roof over the Sikh temple etc when elections are here. If they vote for the opposition, the BN will have to do something for these communities to win them back or risk losing power at some future date.

Instead of talking about electoral reform, everyone should focus on pre-election rigging which has been going on since independence.

For starters, the ruling party does very well every ten years after the delineation of electoral boundaries. This is an opportunity for the powers to be to disperse the Opposition votes while carving out even more seats in their favour. That’s how they were able to almost claw their way back to power in Kelantan. It’s a numbers game.

Next, comes the so-called Barisan Nasional concept which is nothing more than circumscribing the electoral process by endorsing elite power sharing and denying the grassroots majority meaningful participation in the democratic process. The formation of such coalitions before an election should be banned by law.

Thirdly, the first past the post system denies the minority the right to be heard and makes a mockery of democracy. Democracy, in its very essence, means the right of the minority to be heard. Here, we have a system where the BN gets 64 per cent of the votes but picks up 85 per cent of the seats. This should be stopped.

The BN will continue with its gerrymandering of the electoral boundaries until the day comes when no matter how it carves up the seats, it will lose. That will be the end of the BN. That happened in India where the Congress lost power after 50 years. Today, the Congress is back in power after a spell in the political wilderness but only by forging a coalition with other parties. They have a razor thin majority in Parliament and are not in power in many of the states. Never again, will the Congress be able to rule India alone as it did in the past.

The Elections Commission also has a dubious reputation and more often than not functions as a branch of the BN. How clean are the rolls? Are illegals with bogus Malaysian ICs on the rolls, especially in the marginal seats? The addition of a couple of hundred of such votes can make all the difference. The way the EC chairman carries himself in public makes one want to puke. So personal and offensive. Obnoxious and overbearing. Confrontationist and defensive.

The BN also commandeers all forms of public transportation to ferry its supporters to the polling stations. The Opposition supporters have to come on their own. This is a big area of weakness for the Opposition. The Opposition must also likewise ferry their supporters to the polling stations throughout the day. They can use private vehicles. They should also get their supporters to register as voters and turn out as well.

Finally, the use of the Government media and Government servants for campaigning, beginning the campaign a month before the actual campaign under such guises as “pemimpin bersama rakyat” and other scams and handing out election goodies with public money is nothing more than electoral fraud.

This election will be interesting in more ways than one. How will the young vote? What will be the voter turnout? A high voter turnout will be bad for the ruling party. Which way will the Indian, Orang Asli, Dayak and KadazanDusunMurut votes go? These communities now just play a token role in Government. They are there for window dressing. If they vote for the BN, they will continue to be taken for granted by the BN.

Najib did it again — Kg Baru Malays, is that a threat?

From The Star today:

Najib said the future of the Indian community would not be safeguarded by those who led street demonstrations.

“What will happen if the Malays in Kampung Baru begin to rise up (in protest)?

“We don’t want that because we want to build this nation, and the success of this nation depends on the Indians as well as the other communities,” he added.

HELLO. Is that ANOTHER STUPID THREAT?

He did it here. Petaling Jaya Utara MP Chew Mei Fun did it here.

Let me answer your question Najib. If the Malays come out in Kampung Baru, everyone will have a big party eating rendang, lontong and drinking bandung. The Malays in Kampung Baru are peaceful people. Hello!

Can Najib PLEASE enlighten us to what HE thinks will happen if “the Malays in Kampung Baru begin to rise up?”

It was Harun Idris, then the Selangor Mentri Besar, who led the massacre of the Chinese to stay in power, especially in Selangor where they were heavily defeated in the 1969 elections. He used a bunch of thugs — 4D youths or the Mat Rempits of those days.

It was never Malay vs everyone else. It was UMNO.

From an article by Philip Bowring on AsiaSentinel.com:

Non-Malays in particular have long believed that though there was violence on both sides, it was a mostly one-sided affair with some Malay politicians, notably Selangor Chief Minister Harun Idris, encouraging mobs to attack Chinese areas and that the security forces initially did little to prevent violence. This is largely confirmed by contemporary reports such as those of Far Eastern Economic Review correspondent Bob Reece.

[...]

In any event, the Tunku effectively stepped aside as emergency powers to rule by decree were (temporarily) placed in the hands of a National Operations Council headed by his deputy Tun Abdul Razak – father of current deputy prime minister Najib Abdul Razak. The Tunku remained prime minister until September 1970 but had little authority any more. In 1971 he also stepped down as president of UMNO after virulent criticism by the Malay “Young Turks,” headed by Mahathir Mohamad, the future Prime Minister. The same year the government enunciated the New Economic Policy and began aggressive affirmative action programs to advance the economic and educational level of Malays.

SAY NO TO THE RULE OF ROSMAH.

KICK MCA OUT.

Malay Muslim: Outrage at the ‘Tattooing non-Muslims’ Video Clip

Posted in islam, macam2ada, racism, religion by jedyoong on February 3rd, 2008

A Letter From Farouk A. Peru

I write this letter to express my utter contempt at the interview where it was suggested that if my fellow Malaysians who are not of the Islamic faith wished to ensure that they could never be mistaken as Muslims and buried as such, then they should tattoo ‘I am a kafir’ across their chests or foreheads. I speak as a Malay-Muslim who feels that the deplorable behaviour of these individuals is contrary to the Quran despite the notion they give us of being defenders of Islam.

The interview can be found here:

Part 1
Part 2

This interview conveys the poor estimation these people have towards their fellow Malaysians despite them claiming how much they respect Christianity. I call the readers attention to the following from the interview:

We are told that Christians are getting out of hand by poking their noses into Islamic affairs and pushing their religion down Muslim throats. The interviewee tells us that we must be vocal in expressing our faith and the interviewer supports him by equating this problem to an INJUSTICE (by quoting a hadith that if we see an injustice, we must stop it). We must now ask this interviewer, is it just for people to be inconclusively claimed to be Muslims post mortem, have their bodies snatched away from their love ones and buried in a Muslim fashion while a LIVING convert to Christianity cannot have ‘Islam’ deleted from her mykad. Why do you not speak out about that injustice, despite the Quran telling us to judge fairly even if against ourselves (4/137 and 5/8). Is this justice or just -US?

We are then told that Jesus was only sent to the Jews and it was due to Paul that Christianity is a worldwide religion. But wait a second, didn’t the interviewer tell us in part 1 that he didn’t like people poking their noses in Islamic affairs? Why is he allowing the interviewee to do the very same thing here to Christians? According to his website, the interviewee is also about to publish a book which implies that Christianity is a false doctrine by Paul. Will this book be published in Malaysia? If so, will Christians be allowed to write about what they think about Islam and Mohamed? Not likely.

The now infamous ‘joke’, where the interviewer calls for the tattooing of non-Muslims. The interviewer was said to be responding to the ‘hell no, I’m not a Muslim card’ which he finds to be offensive. I would like to ask him please, did this idea arise out of nowhere? It didn’t, it arose from the hurt feelings of our fellow Malaysians, people whose dignities were casually brushed aside as is now becoming usually the case. The interviewer then suggested that we adopt a method which ADOLF HITLER used to increase the efficiency of one of the most evil acts in human history, the holocaust. The interviewer now reframes this evil suggestion as a ‘joke’. If these are the defenders of Islam, Robert Spencer can retire safely knowing that his job is done.

One can also notice a few other things from the latest response of the interviewee in Malaysia-today:

He calls FFT an ‘anonymous chicken’ but forgets to mention that FFT lives in a country which does not respect the dignity of his people or their religion. FFT necessarily has to remain anonymous because this is the only way he can be safe. Perhaps the interviewee’s own bravery stems from the fact that he lives safely in a Malaysia where a Muslim can speak as he wishes to his fellow Malaysians? I would ask him to spout his views in a church in the Bible Belt.

He is very indignant at being called a Nazi and uses the opportunity to mention that Hitler was a Christian. Can we perhaps ask him, why then did his interviewer advocate the methods employed by the Christian Hitler? If Christianity was only for the lost sheep of Israel as they adamantly pointed out in the videos, why do they advocate copying their method?

He uses dirty, filthy words in his retort. The Quran calls those people who do not speak beautifully as the followers of the devils footsteps (17/53) yet this self-styled defender of Islam who feels even the Islamic authorities aren’t doing their job has no problem abandoning this rule to suit his purpose. I guess even God isn’t good enough to tell him off.

He wishes to give a ‘good hiding’ to FFT if he ever met him on the street. Does the Quran tell us to give good hidings when the conflict is of a verbal nature? He needs to consult (16/125) where he will find that the Quran telling us to argue beautifully, not to act like thugs.

This incident involving these two bloggers is very revealing indeed. It exposes a Malaysia where respect between races and religions (I mention ‘race’ here because very strangely in Malaysia, a Malay can never be anything else, constitutionally speaking, and the breakdown of Christian/Muslim relations would almost certainly equate to a breakdown in relations between Chinese and Indians with the Malays) is very clearly on a downward spiral.

To all right thinking Malaysians, but especially my fellow Malay-Muslims, I ask you to step up and demand an apology from these individuals. If we, the constituents of moderate, allow this incident to slip, then we can expect even worse incidents of disrespect in the future. Religious debates can be very enlightening but they must be done in a respectful manner, not carried out by self-styled individuals who have a poor grasp of reality and a poorer sense of respect. If these individuals refuse to apologise that we should boycott them, that is not to deal with them in any way or manner. It is our right, nay our civil duty to do this.

If the government truly wants a united Malaysia, it will have wake up to the fact that ALL Malaysians have a right to have their race and religion respected and treated with dignity. If the government only wants Islam to be respected, then this is the best thing they can do that. Islam itself has never commanded us to treat our fellow man with disrespect. The Quran tells us Allah has given dignity and honour to the children of Adam (17/70) and that believers must never deride or derogate other people (49/11).Muslims need to understand that the dignity of Islam must come from their impeccable behaviour. If they were to bring themselves down to the gutter by behaving like these two individuals, they can never expect to return to the Islam of Prophet Muhammad.

JY: Thank You, Mr Farouk, for your email.

Like you said, I too hope we will become a nation that will transcend race and religion. It’s 2008.

Reading Menj’s threats in Malaysia Today, I am comforted that none of my close “Malay” Muslim friends are like him. I hear PAS has also distanced themselves from these two extremists.

Let’s let this matter rest and treat Mahaguru and Menj as aberrations.

Tattooing non-Muslims, a joke?

Posted in democracy, islam, macam2ada, mind control, racism, religion, siu sei yan, stoopid by jedyoong on February 1st, 2008

Prominent Muslim bloggers Mahaguru and Menj caused a stir with their suggestion to tattoo non-Muslims to prevent future “body-snatching” by Islamic religious authorities. In an online chat with Mahaguru, he said it was a “joke”. He also brought up my post on “Hell NO, I am not a Muslim” card.

Over the past few years, disputes over the deads’ religions have been reported with increasing frequency. Non-Muslims are unhappy that such cases are under the jurisdiction of the Syariah Courts. Our argument is as non-Muslims we should not be and are not subjected to Islamic law.

In the absence of avenues for legal redress in civil courts, we must of course take precautions that our bodies or that of our relatives will not be hijacked by over-eager Islamic authorities wielding Islamic declarations signed close to death and mostly secretly. Our stated religions on our MyKad’s appear to be insufficient evidence to prove our declared religions, whatever that may mean as such things only matter in places where religion is also a state matter.

The issue of burying the dead as Muslims have implications beyond “religion”. The new but very dead Muslim’s legal wealth — property, cash, etc — will only be inherited by Muslim offsprings. If the deceased has no children then his wealth is transferred to some Islamic tabung to be shared with his new brothers and sisters in the Muslim ummah.

Another area of conflict is the fact that on conversion, the convert’s children who are under a certain age, 18 I think, are legally Muslims. In our framework of rights, children are allocated less rights and theoretically more protection. Therefore, children are required by law to follow their parents’ religion.

Again, this only relevant in Islam because in any other “religion”, it is an individual freedom not a state concern. Many children of Buddhists convert to Christianity and vice versa. The thing is religion is a non-issue to most non-Muslims. It’s only becomes an issue when the state steps in.

For example, let’s take a 15-year-old child, Tom. It is likely that at this age, he has his own mind and can make some decisions concerning his future and the meaning of life. Although he is born to Buddhist parents, he does not practise or believe. Along the way, he meets some Christian buddies, starts attending church and chooses to become a Christian, which in itself has a broad range of definitions.

Then daddy argues with mommy. Daddy wants the kiddies but mommy says no. So he converts to Islam. A few things happen legally under our dual court system. Firstly, Tom is officially a Muslim against his will and will never be able to leave “his” religion. Secondly, daddy gets the kiddies. Thirdly, mommy can’t seek legal redress in civil courts. How many people’s rights and freedoms have been infringed for the sake of ONE Muslim — daddy?

I hope we can see how this can be exploited by converts.

As non-Muslims, we are fine with anyone else practising any “religion” as long as it is within the rule of law while respecting the rights and freedoms of everyone else. We do not believe in your God. Hence, Islamic values should not and do not apply to us. We subscribe to the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. I believe this charter has yet to be ratified by our Government.

As the Muslim population grows, the “social contract” agreed at Merdeka is being forgotten. Muslims or rather some Muslim Malays must remember that non-Muslims have contributed much to nation building from the economy to our unique blend of Malaysian culture.

I hope Mahaguru and Menj can see how barbaric their joke to tattoo non-Muslims is. We are not animals to be branded with hot iron. Perhaps what’s more worrying is that beneath the two bloggers’ friendly veneer is their true Islamofascist colours. Instead of seeing how such body-snatching incidents traumatise families and subjecting non-Muslims to Islamic law in Syariah courts is an infringement of our rights, Mahaguru and Menj think it’s “funny” to tattoo us.

I’ve got news for them. That’s called DISCRIMINATION. A “no-no” in civilised society. But then again, we are already discriminated — both Muslims and non-Muslims. Among others, Muslims’ civil rights are eroded as the state imposes Islamic codes of conduct and law on them. Non-Muslims may have more freedoms but then we come to that silly “bumiputera” debate again. Isn’t it ludicrous that to be sons of the soil, the deciding criteria is not whether you are born here but you must be Muslim, at least officially.

We are not forcing Muslims to carry our “Hell NO, I’m not a Muslim” card. We are just protecting ourselves. Unlike Mahaguru and Menj, we think it’s an infringement on Muslims’ rights to tattoo “Muslim” on any part of their bodies. Already, it says so on their MyKad’s.

So boys and girls, I hope you see what I mean by the importance of values and ideologies. Because as this latest blog mudsling shows, even if a PAS leader or supporter is friendly and approachable, at the end of the day we want a different Malaysia. This is why I will NEVER vote PAS even to spite UMNO.

PM on CNN, quite good, I thought

Posted in democracy, elections, politics, racism by jedyoong on January 27th, 2008

He sounded so much better than on local TV. Not as charismatic as Mahathir and Anwar but still a fairly decent performance.

Let’s remember that we have much more freedoms under Pak Lah. I’ve a strange hunch that if Mahathir was still PM, he would have been even more heavy-handed with street protestors and the current Opposition scenario.

Also, despite his faults, I will always remember Dr M as the PM who saved Malaysia from the 1997/98 economic crisis. If we had taken the IMF package, I wonder what would have happened to our country.

But I will also remember being very afraid during his time. As children, we simply weren’t allowed to talk politics. Even now, elders are careful not to discuss such things in public. They talk of the police arrests, allege the “fixing-up” of “enemies of the state” and more tales of state oppression. Even as I write about politics, my family advise me to be careful. So I am vague about what I am writing or working on — mostly pretty mild stuff but still they worry.

At a family dinner last night in a Chinese restaurant in Jalan Imbi, my uncle said he read my articles on Malaysia Today. I was shocked that he read the political news website. A businessman in his early 40s who lives and votes in Subang Jaya, he said he was a regular and enjoyed Raja Petra’s pieces most. Asked if he would be voting, he said: “Yes. Definitely not Barisan Nasional.” He felt that “it was too unfair already”.

The small satisfaction that my pieces are being read and making some small difference is enough to keep me going. Sometimes I ask to what end, will anything change in Malaysia. In times like these, I remind myself why I chose to be a journalist. It is because I want the world to know about the NEP and how unfair it is to non-bumiputeras. I want to the world to know that the Chinese who built the country were massacred by a group led by UMNO Selangor Mentri Besar Harun Idris and then subsequently had their rights and the Finance Minister post taken away from them. I want the world the world to know that Dr M used racism to hold on to power and oppressed the rakyat all his time.

So that’s why I keep writing. So the sacrifices of the Chinese will not be swept under while UMNO continues to trample on our rights. Racism is not only passe, it is unacceptable in civilised society. But after a few years back, I’ve accepted that Malaysia is largely uncivilised.

Wong Chun Wai on Indian Voters

Posted in democracy, politics, racism by jedyoong on January 27th, 2008

One faction too many
The Sunday Star
Sunday January 27, 2008
ON THE BEAT BY WONG CHUN WAI

The Indian community is comparatively small and yet, it is very divided. From the MIC to the Indian Progressive Front, there are factions supporting different leaders.

THE Indian community is shrinking, that’s a fact. If the MIC remains the third biggest component party, it has more to do with history and its partnership with Umno and the MCA in fighting for independence.

The community now stands at 1.8 million, roughly about 8% of the country’s 26 million population, down from 10% before.

The number of registered foreign workers is two million and it wouldn’t be wrong to state that there are now more foreigners, mostly Indonesians, than Indians, and that’s not even counting the sizeable illegal workers.

But the community has never been so split. There are many grievances in the community, with pent-up frustrations of what they perceive as marginalisation from the economy.

The MIC, especially its president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, has been on the receiving end, with sections of Indians charging that the party has not done enough. They also want Samy Vellu to go, saying he has over-stayed.

The party’s fate has become even more complicated with rivalry within the party, with forces aligned to former deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam also wanting Samy Vellu out.

To make matters worse, other smaller Indian parties are also fighting for the community’s affection.

Although the People’s Progressive Party claims to be multi-racial, it is essentially dominated by Indians.

PPP president Datuk M. Kayveas has made no bones of how he feels about Samy Vellu and their feuds are well known. It has been reported that the two squared it off at a recent Barisan Nasional meeting.

Then, there is the Indian Progressive Front (IPF), which has tried for years to be accepted into the Barisan, but has been stopped by the MIC.

It has remained loyal to the Barisan, with its ability to reach out to the poorest in the community, and its president Tan Sri M.G. Pandithan recently buried the hatchet with Samy Vellu.

That olive branch has, however, earned the wrath of its members who felt betrayed; for years, they have fought against Samy Vellu within the pro-government mechanism despite being kept out of the coalition.

Last week, it was reported that the IPF is now split into two factions – one led by an ailing Pandithan and the other by the former secretary-general K. Panjamurai. The latter now leads the newly formed IPF Bersatu.

Panjamurai said his group would support the Barisan in the coming elections and would back Subramaniam and Kayveas.

Then, there are the Hindraf leaders who have proven their ability in organising the community and getting thousands of Indians into the streets to protest.

Their methods may be questioned – and the cost has been high as they are now in Kamunting – but no one should scoff at their ability to rally the Indians.

But the story doesn’t end here. Businessman Datuk K.S. Nallakarupan, once an ally of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has formed Democratic Indian United Party. He’s out to face off with Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

Then, there are Indian leaders in the PKR and the DAP. It is no secret that they, too, are counting the number of Indian candidates to be fielded and there is already grumbling ahead of the polls. It is a time bomb.

But the bottom line is that there are no are Indian majority seats in this country. Any Indian party depends on the Malay or Chinese votes to win and that’s the reality.

The MIC has nine parliamentary seats and 19 state seats. They hold positions because the leadership is committed to power sharing among the various ethnic groups.

But the Hindraf issue, which has gone down badly with Malay voters, can determine the voting trend for the MIC seats. If the Indians themselves decide to be anti-establishment by voting against the Barisan, then it could be a self-inflicted wound. Or triple blow, if the Chinese join in as well.

Some survey findings have revealed that the crucial Malay voters are angered by the street protest and call for the British royal to intervene, and this sentiment may work against the MIC candidates.

Unwittingly, the Indians may join in and vote against their own MIC representatives too. The findings also revealed that the Malay votes, except in certain PAS areas like Kelantan and Kedah, are safely with Umno.

In short, the Malay votes for Umno is solid despite what the urban middle class may feel about certain issues.

That’s the political reality. As for the Indian community, they are at a crossroads, with the elections just weeks ahead.
