Hadi, hospitalised
Read on The Malaysian that PAS president Hadi Awang has been hospitalised for a mild stroke.
Hope he gets well soon.

Gerai-gerai makanan and minuman dipenuhi orang.
Maaf jika, Bahasa saya kurang fasih.

- Nik Aziz

Conversations: Ishak
Ishak has been my family driver since I was…erm…well, since I could remember. He is in his mid-60s.
On a car ride this afternoon
ON THE ELECTIONS
Me: (broken Malay) Wah, kalah besar kali ini. (Wah, lost big this time.)
Ishak: (quite energetically) Besar. Tapi sama-lah. You tengok nanti, nanti semua sama. Pembangkang ke, BN ke, dah duduk situ, sama saja. (Big. But it’ll be the same. You just wait and see, it’ll be the same. Whether Opposition or BN, once you sit at the seat (of power), you’ll be the same.)
Me: Tak sama-lah (Won’t be the same).
Ishak: Sekarang pembangkang pegang, tak boleh. Nanti you tengok. (Now the Opposition holds (the government), can’t. You wait and see.)
Me: Sekarang tak ada apa-apa hal. OK-mah. (Nothing is happening now. OK-mah.)
(All the same, he will sign the land to friends, family.)
Me: Tengok dulu-lah. (Wait and see first-lah.)

ON KELANTAN
Me: Ishak ada pergi Kelantan, ar? (Ishak, do you go to Kelantan?)
Ishak: Ada juga. (Yes.)
Me: Tapi sana ok pun. (But it’s ok there too.)
Ishak: Mereka tak de apa-apa. Cuma kita takut saja. (They (PAS) are harmless. It’s just that we are afraid.)
Me: Ya-lar, saya jalan-jalan sana pun tak de apa-apa. Selamat. (Ya-lar. When I walked around there also nothing happened. Safe.)
Ishak: Ya, memang tak de apa-apa. Ini perasaan takut saja. Perasaan kita saja. Sana tak de apa-apa. Pun ok. (Yes, it’s nothing. Just the feeling of fear. It’s our feelings. It’s ok.)
FOOTNOTE: Hmmm, all these years, I’ve had the wrong idea of PAS and Kelantan. And WHAT ELSE BECAUSE OF MSM?
Husam says Rafidah is a better PM
Some sarcastic post on Husam Musa’s much neglected blog, cetusan-hati.blogspot.com. He wrote:
Wanita UMNO bersekali dengan Wanita Besinya, Rafidah ‘kecundang’. Mereka balik menjaga cucu dan menghayun buaian bila tak disenarai dalam Kabinet baru Abdullah.
Kecuali Rafidah bangkit.
Jaga cucu bukan kerja Rafidah. Kalau dah nak jaga cucu, Wanita UMNO usah berketuakan Rafidah.
Apa punca Rafidah digugurkan selepas dipilih bertanding dan menang? Imejnya buruk? Mana buruk Rafidah berbanding Mat Taib?
Husam masuk UMNO?
This is a rumour that has been going around for a while. And Kickdefella blogged about it today.
I simply say it’s simply disgusting-lah. If Husam goes into UMNO. But if he is for power and they don’t give him the PAS presidency, then what would you do if you were him? Will he betray all those people who have believed in him? And looked up to him? Politicians.
Actually, when I first met him, I thought he looked like an UMNO politician but didn’t behave like one ‘cos he didn’t leer at me. Anyway, maybe it’s me. And he is much, much, much better. He just looked like an UMNO politician to me ‘cos he was wearing modern clothes. But he was in baju Melayu when I accidentally bumped into him on nomination day. Must be his height and Persian features.
Hmmmmm. But how will he become the PM since on Anwar’s side there’s all these old timers like Saifuddin Nasution (UMNO > PKR > PAS > PKR/PAS?) and Azmin Ali waiting to be DPM then PM.
But if Husam is clever-clever to berbuat jalan like Anwar then Husam may have a chance. Will Husam also leap into UMNO on Tengku Razaleigh’s back?
So sad, the idea of Husam Musa being corrupted by joining UMNO. YUCKS.
I wonder if Perak DAP is pissed off with LKS
First, the Fong Po Kuan incident.
Now, this seemingly unilateral decree by Dictator Lim Kit Siang to Perak DAP. Ngeh Koo Ham, who is state DAP chairperson and Sitiawan state legislator, has signed the submission of the three candidates to the Palace. So, I suspect Perak is also pissed off with Lim Kit Siang.
Also read on Husam Musa’s blog that DAP and PAS have worked things out and DAP (probably state) has accepted the PAS MB.
Despite what we say, feel about LKS’s statement
We are probably not the core or hardcore supporters. Or the grassroots, to whom the party probably promised to defend from Islamisation and used lots of examples of rights of non-Muslims being trampled on in civil and syariah courts. So for LKS and DAP to turn around and work with PAS, which “berjuang untuk menegakkan Islam”, will probably be the ultimate betrayal to them grassroots. If I voted DAP ‘cos I bought their secular state rhetoric and then DAP forms govt with PAS. That’s bad.
Right now, I think DAP remembers who voted them in BY FAR.
And they are trying to stay true to their promises unlike MCA — the voice of UMNO. It’s not so much that they don’t want to be truly Malaysian but probably due to the reality of their own devise. If they hadn’t played the secular card so much, then perhaps it’s easier to work with PAS.
Haiyah DAP learn from PAS lah…
Malaysiakini reported:
When contacted for an immediate reaction, Nizar said: “We believe that as a coalition government, all decisions will be collective.”
“We would not respond to comments being made outside the new coalition government,” he added.
JY: That’s the way-lah. Government-lah. Not Opposition…I wonder if DAP leaders will still speak to me after this. Am supposed to try to catch the swearing-in of the state exco in Dewan Sri Pinang tomorrow….Ha ha ha ha ha
DAP, forever a Chinese party
So the magic din happen after all and the DAP is stomping their feet.
What’s wrong with a PAS MB? Better than a PKR MB for sure.
There are many possible reasons why a PAS ADUN was chosen instead, my random guesses are
1. Guan Eng, new Penang CM and DAP secretary-general, freaked the royals out when he announced that he would do away with pro-Malay policies. If this happened in Perak, will the peace be maintained? It’s not Chinese-majority Penang where it’s simply a different world here.
2. The Perak royalty dun like PKR / Anwar /DAP.
3. It was a racist decision. They din want to give it to a Chinese.
4. PAS offered the royals a better deal than DAP.
5. DAP doesn’t know how to work with people outside their clique.
6. DAP doesn’t care about Malays / Islam.
7. DAP doesn’t care about the Istana. Quite obvious when they decided to ignore the Istana’s decision. More minus points. The Malays like royalty?
8. Ini semua permainan politik Barisan Nasional (All these are Barisan Nasional’s political games)…..
9. Of course, I missed this out earlier, that the PAS ADUN is simply the best choice.
My random take is that DAP may have no choice but to issue that statement on Lim Kit Siang’s blog ‘cos if they accept PAS, which is based on Islam, DAP will lose its raison d’etre (reason for being), which is to fight for a secular state against Islamisation. It’s very niche, I know. But pretty solid support it seems.
Actually, Husam Musa said some stuff about working together. But DAP just wants to be buddies with PKR, which has a lot of ex-UMNO types. I think DAP will be quite content to rule Penang forever. Just wait till PAS walks over to BN. But PAS has more integrity than that, right? They will probably lose lots of their core supporters, especially Kelantan. But would politicians care when offered millions and millions? I have to salute the informal Barisan Alternatif as none of its elected reps have jumped ship yet.
I know, I know. The rakyat voted right. As I write this post now, on the mainstream media — TV, newspapers, radio — the BN are whacking the BA. Phrases bandied about include “marriage of convenience”, “undi mengikut emosi, sentimen (voted based on emotions, sentiments)”, “mungkin ada parti yang akan menyertai Barisan Nasional untuk memperkukuhkan kemenangnan BN (maybe some parties may join BN to reinforce BN’s victory)”…etc.
In a way, the DAP is doing what it should. This sort of reaction may be what the grassroots want. That’s the DAP’s role. Or it was when it was in the Opposition. But when in government, what are the grassroots’ expectations?
New Perak MB goes to PAS
***UPDATE***7.51PM
From Uncle Kit’s blog:
No DAP CEC mandate for PAS Menteri Besar in Perak
The decision to appoint a PAS Assemblyman Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin as Perak Mentri Besar has caused shock and consternation to DAP leaders, members and supporters.
The DAP Central Executive Committee, at its emergency meeting in Penang on Sunday, 9th March 2008, had given approval for the formation of a Perak coalition government comprising 18 DAP Assembly members, seven PKR Assemblymen and six PAS Assemblymen.
DAP is prepared to accept DAP chairman and Assemblyman for Sitiawan Ngeh Koo Ham or PKR Behrang Assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi as Perak Mentri Besar.
As the appointment of PAS Assemblyman for Pasir Panjang Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin as Perak Mentri Besar representing the third and smallest political party in the proposed coalition has not received the mandate of the CEC, DAP Perak Assemblymen will stay away from the swearing-in ceremony for Perak Mentri Besar scheduled tomorrow.
JY: What’s happening. Am gonna go makan now. Sigh. Life goes on. Remember peace is more important than power.
***UPDATE***7.30PM
Spoke to my source. Bless him. He maintains that Ngeh was supposed to be the first Christian MB in West Malaysia and attributes the change to “horse trading”…..
I think it’s better for the peace that the MB is Malay and Muslim. Politics is about perception…
***UPDATE*** 7.01PM
Actually Raja Petra of Malaysia Today thought Perak would go to DAP too…
Tomorrow, we should see the Selangor and Perak state governments getting sworn in. PKR will lead Selangor and DAP, Perak. That would mean two states would be led by PAS, two by DAP, with one for PKR.
So I think my source is right. Something might have happened. Maybe after Guan Eng’s drastic move to abolish pro-Malay policies in Penang scared ‘em Perak royals.
ORIGINAL POST
OOOoooooPPPPppppSSSssss. I am not using that DAP source anymore, who is usually reliable. Malaysiakini’s report here.
What a boo-boo. Apologies to all.
Congrats to PAS. Thank God, someone who can keep the peace and speak Malay…..
PAS: The massive prayer meeting
I got goosebumps when I saw the women covered, I admit. The whole scene just had a medieval Middle Eastern feel to it. Perhaps it’s social conditioning that I am not used to seeing images like that which my mind will immediately link to oppression of women, Saudi Arabia, parochialism, etc. It really creeps me out to see so many women covered up from head to toe. Don’t mean to offend. It’s just how I feel….But I guess I must learn to look beyond appearances….Hmmmm, that din sound right….Ha ha ha ha….
PAS or rather is this Islam? Really?
But check out Husam on the state budget last year. He speaks well. I know, I act as if he has just burst into the political scene. Really, it just shows how one-sided our mainstream media are.
