Who swung the Malay vote — Dr M or Anwar?

Posted in brain exercise, politics by jedyoong on April 4th, 2008

It din really move in Lunas, Machap or Ijok. But it suddenly swung in the general election. Based on the TREND, what do you think? Was it the Mahathir or Anwar factor that shifted the votes? Or both? Or none — just issues?

PS. If you want to insult me, sure. It’s a free country. Just not on my blog. ;) Start your own and express yourself.

It is neither Anwar nor Mahatir who has changed the Malays. Life’s reality changed them. They like any other community in this nation suffered corruption. They paid a price for freedom like many others. They want an end to cronyism which suffocates them like the rest of the races. They want the misuse of Islam to end so that they are spared the agony of their faith being sacrificed at the alter of political expediency. Tolls changed them. Price hikes changed them. Mind you, neither Mahatir nor Anwar suffers toll or price hike flactuations. The idea of Malays of taking a dig at Malays as if they are robbing everyone through NEP changed them. They want to know who has benefited from the scheme. That’s what changed the Malays.

Correction: The idea of non- Malays of taking a dig at Malays as if they are robbing everyone through NEP changed them. They want to know who has benefited from the scheme.

    The word “non” was missing…

It was the corrupt practices by BN leaders that swung all races’ votes.
As if they never learnt the lesson.

Now Mat Taib wants to use his ministry for lower level corruption pulak.
Almost all ministers have been using public funds for personal gain to win contracts. They are all in the Malaysian super rich league. Look at their houses and cars…
Now for the states under opposition, the federal monies will be channeled through JKKK appointed by Mat Taib’s ministry. Here we go for another round. We will start seeing “Ketua Kampung Federal” driving posh cars soon…

He creates more avenues for corruption. If the monies are channeled directly to the State Govts, at least we know where they are spent. BN still got seats as opposition and its ADUNs could closely monitor and debate the usage of states’ funds…

Mahathir is right this time. If BN continues like this, the 5 states would never be won back… And they might be more states to lose in the next election.

Also, the ministry doesn’t know how to differentiate govt with political party…
The Federal ministries should give more respect to the opposition State Officials esp in officiating functions and working with rakyat.

Seems like double standard now… Previously, Tmbalan Ketua Pemuda Umno who didn’t have any position in the government has been officiating many govt functions including at schools and govt. departments. I think we should send all the ministers and DGs back to administration school. Probably seconding them to Europe and learn how to manage the country…

Good luck for BN. If you continue your fool practices, one day you will fall worse due to your own action…

    30% malay hardcore PAS supporters
    30% malay hardcore UMNO supporters
    15% malay hardcore Keadilan supporters
    25% malay atas pagar

pilihanraya kecil Lunas, Machap and Ijok - BN win becos of they bribe the voters- duit la, beras la, jalan tar la, quran la, kain pelikat la, kenduri la, gula la dan macam2 lagi.

pilihanraya umum BN tak menang besar sebab x dapat nak bribe semua orang melayu,

tak dilupakan juga pengundi hantar yang menyumbang kemenangan BN - sekitar 5 ratus undi

No, the Pakatan Rakyat victory cannot be attributed to one or two individuals.

Sorry, Anwar - you’re just not that influential, to tell the truth.

It’s a combination of personalities - Kerismudin, K. Jamaludin, Nazi Aziz, Hindraf, Bersih, VK Lingam, Nude Squat, Baduddin Amirudin , One Eye bin Yusof, Zakaria Mat Deros, Angkasawan Negara, etc

    Tapi cuba kita bayangkan sebentar…

BN menang…

2/. Bagaimanakah agaknya Barisan Kabinet Negara selepas PM angkat sumpah?..

    Agaknya, apa komen anda….?

Apa yang pasti, JANGAN KUMPAU tau…http://jangankumpau.blogspot.com

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi swung votes nationwide. Without this man, neither Anwar nor Mahathir would’ve had the impact they had.

    cheers

Mostly issues.. corruption, nepotism, n BN too long in power n becoming too stale n stinking. Madey cannot claim he is the prime mover la. He osso got so many issues during his time. Anwar, I’m willing to give him a chance.

We are fed up with the government who is not making things better for the rakyat but for themselves. Any other devil is better than the present leadership.
Anwar? He was rushing himself to become PM. He could be PM now if he had waited his turn. The post was his for the taking when the old man gets tired of running the country but he chose to run against a someone who will stop at nothing to ensure his own survival.
In the absence of any other charismatic leader, Anwar may become PM. Najib has himself to blame for all the scandals which will turn the tide against him.
What Abdullah said above is correct, correct, correct.

    Jed!

Neither Mahathir or Anwar swung the Malay vote in general or Umno votes in particular. It was a whole host of issues. BUT if one was to attribute it to an individual, than the person most responsible was Pa Lah.He was the tipping point. Or KJ.Same differance, because in the minds of many, they were effectively one and the same.

In many places, KJ ws one of the main reason why the Umno election machine never got into full throttle, seemingly stuck at second gear. The perception on the ground, rightly or wrongly, was that many of the candidates was vetted, if not nominated outright by him. To many this was an affront that they simply cud not stomach. It was the tipping point that forced the party’s election machine, (which essentially consist of ordinary Umno members)to ask themselves, ” Why am i doing all this? Who at the end of of the day am i working for…and for whose benefit? Is it the party? Or is it the SIL? Takkkan aku kerja siang malam hanya untuk memajukan cita- cita dan tamak haloba peribadi dia?!!Aku dah jadi ahli berpluh tahun …dia ??This party does not belong to him!!”

Of course lah, no body actually ask themselves those questions. At least not outright. But, it was part and parcel of the logic of the situation.

At heart, regardless of what was outwardly expressed, those were roughly the unarticulated thoughts and sentiments of a great number of ordinary members.

Its not Mahathir or Anwar, I believe the whole episode was design to ensure BN will survive through the global uncertainty in the next 5 years or so. Imagine all the states that falls are the Industrial heartland of Malaysia. With the decline of the US economy these are the areas that is going to be hard hit (Manufacturing & electronics). BN give these sick babies to PKR, DAP & PAS and they happily takes over. In the next 5 year Pakatan Rakyat must ensure 300,000 people don’t lose their jobs, if Pakatan Rakyat cannot do it then BN will be begged to make a come back with open arms from the rakyat. BN the returning hero!

Who made the swing? Its someone unshaven, bispectacle with tusseled hair and tabacco stained fingers still having a fit of laughter over what happend. This person is in Abdullah’s camp.
