What has Anwar Ibrahim done for Malaysia?
Besides the drivel about uniting the Opposition, etc. What has he achieved before he was sacked in 1998?
Islamisation? Moral policing? Bahasa baku?
***UPDATE***10.07AM
Come on, Anwaristas. This post is dedicated to your “messiah” and “idola”…..

boleh pakai baju melayu hari jumaat.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ROTFL
What has Abdullah Badawi done for Malaysia?
What has Najib done for Malaysia?
What has Lim Kit Siang done for Malaysia?
What has Tengku Razaleigh done for Malaysia?
What has…..and so on and so on…..
What worry about that?
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR MALAYSIA????
Erm. I am not really on par with those big guns.
Let’s compare oranges with oranges.
what has he done for malaysia? capture the imagination of the masses, inject a sense of idealism in youths of his day, enrich bahasa malaysia. if you are from the arts stream, it’s easier to understand. if you are from science where all you’d like to see are gleaming towers, middle-eastern architecture oriented administration township, a big lake twice the size of singapore, then…
On bahasa baku, in the days of big satelite dishes (as compared to small astro ones today) an acquaintance in Southern Sulawesi mentioned to me that he can watch all our three channels then - RTM1, 2, TV3. He said that he could understand Berita TV3 perfectly but had trouble comprehending Malay language news on TV1. Those days, TV3 used bahasa baku. Sabahans and Sarawakian naturally speak bahasa baku when they converse in BM. So are Kedahans to a certain extent. But because it was introduced by AI, the likes of Rais Yatim saw it fit to put an end to it.
Bahasa baku should be reintroduced. Like Queen’s English. It’s not for everyday use but serves as a standard.
castello34,
u can’t answer a question with a question. maybe u don;t know the answer.
lemme tell you briefly what anwar has to offer. joined umno in 1982. less than a yr, he came umno youth leader (with mahathir tremendous super support). became VP in 1987 (see how KJ idolizes anwar coz of the latter’s fast tracked promotion?), became minister of finance in 1991 (all these won’t happenned without TDM’s misplaced support), became DPM in 1993. Took him only 11 years to be DPM. And still he can;t wait to become PM. I detest people without patience.
let’s see what he has done. when he was the education minister, he introduced bahasa baku. a version of BM which is so not practicable it sounded foreign. imagine pronouncing the words like bank as ‘bunk’, etc. funny language.
anwar loves international trade. he is fascinated by it. when he was finance minister, BNM lost billions. BNM reports to finance minister. anybody else remember what else he did during his tenure as finance minister? maybe the imf debbacle will refresh your minds.
he was the Acting Prime Minister for 2 months in 1997. to digress a bit, you work in a company who has an MD. the MD is all powerful and had propelled your company to great heights. everyone respected him. he went on leave for 2 months and the Deputy MD took over. he is quite young and tries very hard to emulate the MD. But when he was the acting MD he did a lot of things differently. mind you, he is not takig over the company. he only has to take care of the company in the MD’s absence. the acting MD continued changing the policies, rules and way of working during that 2 months. is that permisible by the employees and the rest of management team? of course not. people will start complaining. the MD then came back from holiday and he saw a lot of things went wrong. how would he react?
anyway, coming back, the only physical thing anwar did was good was co founding ABIM with Sanusi Junid. what else.. hhmm.. trying hard to remember… as what simon cowell would say, his performance is forgetable!
at least tengku razaleigh help set up petronas and became it’s first chairman. better him than anwar to manage the economy as anwar don;t kow nuts. wanna bet? leave thru the horror of 1997-1998 again when the finance minister at that time tightened the credit crunch and raised the NPL from 6 months to 3 months. the effect of that rule was near destruction of the banking system. and who saved the day and not to mention your money?
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha a h…also quite sarcastic…ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…loves international trade…..haha ha hahahahhahhahhahaha
but i tot anwar was man of the year or finance minister of the year according to TIME mag??? ha ha ha ha ha ha h
Hmm Jed, Good “Big” Question Mark with the Title.
I was a Govenment Officer before since Ku Li was the Finance Minister. As I see it, what was done by Anwar was the “Kontraktor Berwibawa” scheme where the Treasury enlisted contractors given very special privilledges. Hence, most of the selected one were all his “friends, cronies, supporters”. He did introduced what was now being abused as “Direct Negotiation” and sideline the tendering process.
Pergh… all selected one amassed huge profits without even spend some mone to buy the Tender Documents!!!
Since then, the fair terdering system being systematically overruled when all approved projects under EPU was “hijacked” even before they were tabled before the Parliament. Pretty sad.
I dont see any major impact done by DSAI for the sake of the Nation other than his personal agenda. When he was the Agriculture Minister, he did the “Pasar Tani”. As we know, that Pasar Tani is nothing more than the rebranding of Pasar Malam that existed long time ago !!! Only to caused nuisance, rubbish left the day after to be collected by the local authorities.
When he was the Menteri Belia dan Sukan, nothing concrete was done and hardly anybody can remember what was achieved.
Ahaks..
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…”Pasar Tani is nothing more than the rebranding of Pasar Malam that existed long time ago !!! ” Ha ha ha ha ha…Like replacing the NEP with the MEP….???? Ha ha ha ha ha ha
what he has done..he done nothing…
except ..increase the interest rate that have made thousands of bumis went to bankrupcy
eh. also a lot of chinese bizman…i remember the really high FD rates….
apa yang anuar dah buat ye…. sebahagian projek putrajaya, UIA, KLIA masa jadi Menteri kewangan dari 199x-1997,
saya tak rasa semua pembangunan kat malaysia ni idea mahathir, tapi gandingan mahathir-anwar semasa mereka macam bapak dan anak dalam umno dulu. its not one man show.
tak payah la nak nafikan yang anwar langsung takde sumbangan kepada pembangunan malaysia
even F1 circuit sepang pun bukan idea mahathir, pengakuan dirinya sendiri
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET9hpwKYolc
so kepada penyokong kedua2 mahathir dan anwar, hentikanlah sifat taksub
Well he has managed to get BN`s biggest defeat after independance.
And what do you have done for Malaysia…
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
He passed the strong anti corruption law which was the last straw with mahathir…and after that mahathir ordered rahim nor to follow up…
he has given us the ability to HAHHAHAHAH
a jedyoong trait HAHHAHAHAHAH
HAHAHHAHAHAH

Dr.M asking Malaysia to roll out the red carpet for Robert Mugabe if he goes into exile.
HAHAHAHHA like minded despots. maybe he can be employed as a loaf bread maker in the prstine hills of langkawi.
HAHAHHHA
I remember the confusion of doing business in1998: morning PM would say something on financials/currency/interest rates and in the afternoon his deputy would say the opposite! This went on for about a month till Anwar got sacked.
As to Anwar being named as Man/Finance Minister of the year by TIME - why not? He almost gave Malaysia away to IMF?
But Hutchrun is right - he is integral in 8 March and getting Pakatan Rakyat together. Maybe the years in prison did help bring back some idealism into him.
I’ve always been uneasy since I heard him say “orang mata sepet yang duduk di tanah air kami” during a student gathering way back in 1984, where the non-Malays were not obviously in the audience.
Gerak says Mahathir should be investigated for corruption re: ACA. Now he pleads a welcome for Mugabe.
I read into this that Mahathir is planning to run away to Zimbabwe or S.Africa, and expects a red carpet welcome there.
ask not what your country has done for you; but instead, what you have done for your country?
Do not forget that Anwar was one of the candidates for the Sectary General of PBB! That Korean guy should be lucky as Anwar turn down that job to focus in the election. That is enough to show Anwar’s value in the eye of the world!
No. You have to be nominated by your country. Anwar never was…
Pasar tani in rural area are not like pasar malam, farmers really sell what they’ve planted once a week
Anwar did nothing great during his time in govt. He was a part of the corrupt and arrogant govt under Dr. Mahathir. Then he went to jail and became famous because a lot of people think he was unfairly sacked and his charges were drummed-up.
I guess being jailed and living outside the corridors of power over the years, had made him more “human” and closer to the ordinary people. He now wants to fight the people’s fight, try to right the wrongs of a govt he once was a part of.
Can you fault this man? Can you believe in him and join him to fight for us (the ordinary men and women) against the jaggernaut incumbent govt?
I say “Yes, I believe in him” and I will fight alongside him, as he is the re-enlightened one - he who will lead us out from the darkness, show us the path out of the woods, and bring upon us, the ordinary people, a new Malaysia for all Malaysians.
It may be just a dream to some, but a hope to me. I hope you will share my hope.
Anwar Ibrahim has done SO MUCH FOR MALAYSIA.
A lot of damage that is.
He was after all an important team member of UMNO for a great part of his life, so he must share at least some of the blame that UMNO is getting right now for all that is wrong with the country.
I will refrain from more scathing criticisms though…
I assume he has learnt from his incarceration and has changed for a better person.
http://unwantedcitizen.blogspot.com/2008/03/do-you-trust-this-guy.html
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Robert, I share your stand.
All of us is aware of Anwar’s past when he was first last - a MALAY extremist !!
But, after having a taste of bitter medicine - I hope to believe he’s reformed. And, if there’s anybody who can take down UMNO - I think he’s the one.
So, for the sake of re-building Malaysia - I think we have no choice but to believe him one more time and pray he doesn’t fail all of us.
P.S. At times, I am also riddled with doubt - as I fear him as much as I want to believe in him.
I work in philleo damansara, The star also at Philleo.

catshavefur said “ask not what your country has done for you; but instead, what you have done for your country?”
rotflmfao
We study, we work, we toil, we breathe, we vote and we try to survive.
Have you never heard the description of democracy as “Government of the people, by the people, for the people”?
Of course we should ask what the country has done for us. The governments’ SOLE REASON FOR EXISTENCE is to look after us.
That is their mandate.
Hmm Anwar Ibrahim (how many times I must remind some that he is not DSAI anymore), a fallen politician that rises back from the ashes (hehe it’s true what! How many politician being screwed by Mahathir yet bounced back, I think our 10 finger can named all of them rite, Ku Li is one of them but yet he make a pact with Tun Mahathir sigh).
I don’t idolize Anwar Ibrahim nor made him as my “Messiah” of PR. What I do see is only a COMRADE like all of us who are anti-BN (to the core, yup! can he forgive Tun Mahathir for what he had done to Anwar? The answer will be simply “NO”, no matter Mahathir apologized or not, he cannot undo time to correct what he had done to Anwar nor repay his debt to Anwar in any redemptions available, so this is why I believe Anwar anti-BN agenda is SINCERE and TRUE from his heart).
Yes undeniably all of us (I think even those people in PR) are wary about Anwar’s hidden agenda but that is his “PERSONAL AGENDA” not related to us and I doesn’t care less about it. So if we really wanna forked out the past to justify his “MORALITY” hehe First of all, does POLITICs really can be associated with MORALEs??
So who are we to justify him, why dun we just let GOD do it then? (In the end, all of us will meet him after death). All I can do now is pray and hope that my so called COMRADE will be loyal to us in our quest against BN.
Anwar said: “Malay people, Chinese people, Indian people, we all belong to the same family.” At the time he said it, it felt sincere, I felt welcomed in Malaysia, even though I am a Malaysian citizen. I am sure many feel the same way, and I think that’s the most significant thing that he has done for M’sia so far.
Many Malay leaders said the similar things before, but none of them made me feel welcomed in M’sia. They were not sincere.
It remains to be seen whehter words translate to actions. But so far I like what I have seen, especially how he backed up LGE after the misquoted statement on NEP.
What Anwar Ibrahim has done for Malaysia? It is not relevant anymore of what he has done for Malaysia in the past. I prefered it to be What Anwar Ibrahim want to do for Malaysia now and in the future? Well, I will support him or whoever the leaders as long they are against BN - corruption, abuse of power, discrimination to the minority races, promoting fanatically way of UMNO Islam and do not take care of the rakyat. Anything Anwar Ibrahim want to do in future, I support him….and if in future he changes to be as power crazy as BN style……we, rakyat, will bring him down as we how we will bring BN down…..
JY,
You, or any other voter in any part of any country in this world that practice democracy system with voting, vote for their politician that they believed in to represent them in the government.
Voter make their choice on certain politician not necessary because that politician has had made brilliant contribution to their country, but because voter believe and buy the manifestos or certain charisma of their politician’s stance at specific case and at specific time.
Sure, there are leaders that did something beneficial to the country, out from other wrongdoing that outnumbered the good things they have done. Does that mean then, we have to keep voting them, the existing leaders, instead of another politician than contribute nothing practically but promise the hope of changes to our country? Are we going to have future with that sort of mentality?
One right does not corrects one wrong. DSAI probably did not, as your question hints, make anything great to Malaysia. That does not mean the rakyat will have to remain under our current situation until eternity.
Such reformation at this time needs a leader, and base on facts and feels, DSAI is the correct man at this stage. Maybe he could not perform well when he is the prime minister of Malaysia, then rakyat will use the democracy mechanism to pull him down.
Mmmm, going by the comments - 95% attacked DSAI quite vehemently.
I’m no fan of him - when I commented on Nuraina A Samad blog, I got whacked by a few DSAI-huggers/kissers.
The person who commented on Anwar nearly misleading the nation in the late 1990s in financial ruin is correct.
IMF then, now World Bank - Anwar good friend - WB ex president Paul Wolfwowitz,
PW is a high ranking Illuminst (of the Illuminati), now a lot of people are either disbelieving or unbelieving or just totally ignorant of the Illuminati activities.
I don’t know about you - Jed.
But as I have been a Christian for some years - I believe in their presence, as after 9/11 - I started studying their activities.
Nearly blew out my mind - how mankind can do such atrocities to another human being.
Without their presence - not much evil will abound. In the Book of the Revelations there is clear evidence of their present activity; if this Book was not written I too may not believe in their existence.
I have just started a blog about them - starting with this country, though not much I know except for a few involved with them.
Now back to Anwar - my short article in my blog: http://worldmessenger.blogspot.com/
Anwar Ibrahim – is he with the world conspirators?
Read he is also a World Bank official.
it doesn’t matter…we just don’t want anyone to hold so much power for too long.. we want balance of power. in fact, we should be like the united states…if a president is good, the max he gets is two terms to serve.. he has to make way for other possible good ones. if the president is shitty…he gets one term..that’s all…
agree with balance of power.
masaalahnya bukan anuar atau sape-sape………yang utama sekarang sapa boleh membela nasib rakyat,……kalau asyik cakap rakyat subsidi lebih baik dok umah aje,…tak yah jadi pm pun tak pa……
plzzzzzzzzzz…………Rakyat tau sape betul dan sape tak betul…..
Got this from blog
Anwar Ibrahim – is he with the world conspirators?
First, let me say, I am not a BN man or supporter, never was nor is. I am not writing this article to attack the Opposition group; I support the minority players/parties as I strongly believe that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Therefore if BN becomes the minority, then I may have to support them to help check on the excesses of whichever party ruling our country.
“…the country is in danger of collapsing due to Anwar’s involvement with the American Democratic body which gives him money to do his political campaign here. Apparently he claims that Anwar is about to send ½ billion Sing Dollar into Sabah“. (Rights2Write)
The above statement is taken from a contributor in Susan Loone’s blog which can be false. I have not heard of American Democratic body.
In the past his name was on the attendees list of the Illuminati’s sponsored meeting/s when he was DPM as was Datuk Sopiee (deceased). Anwar is still with the World Bank (an Illuminati org.).
D.S. Anwar Ibrahim is in the news everywhere. Soon he maybe the next PM, but before we elect him, we should ask him - where Anwar Ibrahim allegiances lie – with this country or with the elitist’s society of a foreign country?
We better be safe than sorry as he is considered the power behind the BR or BA coalition - an ‘Alternative PM’.
Malaysia Today have already exposed Tan Sri Dato’Azman Hashim as a member of the Trilateral Commission; a person cannot just join such a secret exclusive organization but have to be invited into it. How many there are in this country who belong to such org. or similar ones?
Again MT has an update 27.03.08: Chandra Muzaffar Responds To Bhupalan And Other Critics
Bhupalan is aware of all this. An ardent PKR supporter, she was distressed that I had quit the party and met me a couple of times. I explained to her in great length that apart from internal party divisions, I was unhappy about money politics in the Likas by-election, the manipulation of communal sentiments in the Lunas by-election and Anwar’s close relationship to certain individuals and think-tanks in Washington who were part of the US’s agenda for global hegemony. I told her that I had conveyed all these and other concerns to Anwar in a 15 page private letter in March 2002.

Those who are with the elitists are not loyal to their countries but only to their masters in Illuminati.
If Anwar for or against us
Will we get out of the fire-pan (BN govt.) and in the fire (Anwar/eliist)
PS. During the 1990s Anwar as Finance minister nearly got funds from IMF (Illuminati org.). Our problems will be just about the same as in Indonesia – controlled by the hidden hand. As the Illuminati started the 9/11 WTO destruction, and the Bali bombing – they may do so here. Calling non terrorists – terrorists, and getting them charged as terrorists though some may be just involved.
If he had become the PM then, our troubles will just started.
So Malaysians think who you want as the next PM.
But first for the sake of the general public who uninformed or know little and those who deny of such conspiracy going on worldwide, I would like for them to see the website: http://www.arcticbeacon.com/ by Greg Szymanski, JD; or for Muslims see: http://www.illuminaticonfessions.webfriend.it/ by by Leo Lyon Zagami, now Khaled Saifullah Khan, an ex high level & of royal bloodline in the Illuminati, now a Muslim convert.
These two websites are the most reliable in dispensing information about the Illuminati, some others are misinfo agents or disinfo agents, eg Alex Jones.
Anwar?.. Nothing except controversies and sodomy. He is more corrupted than Tun. Yeah!! Which one do you prefer to govern Malaysia?. During the economy crisis, what he had wanted to do?. Increasing interest rate.. Tun?.. Hey Malaysian, don’t stop buying stuff from your local shops.. Keep the local economy going.. Anwar strategies was increasing interest rate thus people will star saving, Tun maintaining or lower the interest, let the rakyat spend more in the country to help the local economy going coz the RM is not tradeable outside Malaysia. Want to buy stuff from us, bring your money to Malaysia then we convert it. Anwar?. The stockmarket those days are most basically depends on rumors. And do we want outsiders to control our financial?. Miss the old days during Tun leadership. All those mega project benefited to all Malaysian. Frustrated when PakLah cancelled the double tracking railroad. It was RM5b then, now?. How much many can we save for the transportation cost of goods, leisure to with family from north to south without toll or hike gas price.
My advice to Pakatan Rakyat, do not elect Anwar as your PM or you’ll regret it. Find somebody smart, intellegence and fair in decision-making. Do you want to be lead by a gay?. Well at least Clinton got balls to admit he a dude man with a good bj!!..Cheers
My head spins reading all the comments.
My fellow Malaysians let’s just pray that God in his love and compassion will bless Malaysia and her people.
Of course your knowledge is important or we will not know important things about our leaders.
I hope that “God is in control” is the truth and our belief.

I can’t agree more with Robert Teh . DSAI did contribute to our country no doubt about it , so as Tun M . I think any PM from BN will be a unpopulor leader not by character or leadership as judged but BN itself is a corrupted government . Tun M and DSAI is a great leaders by example but they too are judged as corrupt when in BN . Back to contribution , all have done their job well . … but I strongly feel that DSAI have changed when he is jailed .. he has come to realised the injustice … as felt that us the common people . I strongly support him . I believe he has the right quality to bring us forward ….. BN is fading as we speak .
