llk - actually, your argument on jurisdiction is not entirely correct. There is some authority for the Malaysian courts to say that they have jurisdiction see Dow Jones v Gutnick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gutnick_v_Dow_Jones

RPK was right in ignoring this case. Legally, this case should not even be brought up in a Malaysian court as it has no jurisdiction over the alleged libel. The said article was published in a non-Malaysian media, as MT site does not reside in Malaysia and not even a registered entity in Malaysia. Technically, this case doesn’t exist in Malaysia. What Nordin Kardi and the judge presiding in this suit is doing is just a case of “intellectual masturbation” where the “actors” in this “judicial charade” can only “syiok sendiri”. There is no legal ground to enforce the judgement. I wonder where the judge got her law degree as it seems that she does not even understood the very basic concept of “jurisdiction”.

I wouldn’t be too worried if I was RPK. The judge made a fundamental mistake in her judgment. It is textbook law that for a judgment in default of a cause of action like defamation, you can only enter a judgment for damages to be assessed. You cannot enter a fixed sum in damages for judgment in default of appearance for a cause of action like defamation.

Any rookie first year lawyer knows that. It just goes to show how low the standard of the judiciary is. The judge should resign and go back to law school.

GE is over, but `Keris` Muddin and his die-hard Education Ministry are still battling:

PENANG (March 26, 2008): Schools in the five states controlled by the opposition coalition have been verbally adviced to take a neutral stance in inviting executive councillors or state assemblyman for official functions.

And this is being interpreted to mean that the schools should refrain from inviting executive councillors or assemblymen from opposition parties, at least until further notice.
